Let's Stop Acting Like Domestic Violence Doesn't Exist

I'm so damn' tired of people wanting to sweep domestic violence under the rug and then when something happens to a woman that is so incredibly heinous, everyone wants to jump on the Domestic Violence Bandwaggon. How long does that strong sentiment actually last? When the last reporter stops reporting, everyone forgets, meanwhile the victims, if still alive, are left to fend for themselves.

Staying In Shelters: What happens after your 30 day residency is over, where is the victim to go? Someone needs to answer this!!! How much money in donations did the shelters rake in last year? I tell you, it's worth investigating. Something isn't adding up. Has anyone asked a victim, how their stay was in the shelter. Ofcourse not, no one cares.

Because so many of you have not experienced domestic abuse first hand, your knowledge of its destruction is limited to the seminars you attend, the forms you fill out and the stories of those who’s abuse you catalog. You can not begin to see the benefits of having, maintaining and updating a database of abusers. I am literally sick, sick and tired of all of the bureaucratic bull-s___. I'm sick of those who can't see past their ignorgant noses to see that this change may actually be beneficial to them one day.

Well...I have experienced DV first hand and you are right. What happens to victims after they leave the shelters? I am trying to help victims by donating 25% of profits from my book CONFESSIONS OF A CATHOLIC SCHOOLGIRL to help end this bs.

Thanks Myra for telling it like it is! Survivors need a voice of experience and more women like you to stand up and tell it like it is! We are lucky to have you as a voice. Your passion and your courage are greatly appreciated- keep up the good work!

I agree with Michelle Kane what happens after the 30 days are up in the shelter? What happens to those like me that were not eligible for the shelter because of the abusers occupation? There is no “magic wand” for us to wave to make our lives better. It is time for a change in how domestic violence programs and services are facilitated in our nation as the old ways of doing things are not working! It takes more than 30 days in a shelter and a brochure to become a survivor.
